THE LARGER DARK MARBLE STONE ON THE RIGHT HAS HAYNES PARK ON IT. ORIGINALLY, BOTH THE STONE AND PLAQUE WERE ON A RAISED BED WITH THE PLAQUE SET IN CONCRETE BELOW THE GRANITE PIECE. HERE IS WHAT ERIC LUND FOUND ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE MEMORIAL PARK. IT WAS ORIGINALLY DEDICATED IN JUNE, 1965. IN JANUARY OF 1974, DURING MAJOR CHANGES AT THE BASE THE MEMORIAL SITE WAS TO BECOME THE SITE OF THE NEW BASE CHAPEL. THE PARK WAS RELOCATED AND REPLACED THE "GENGHIS KHAN GARDEN". ERIC'S MOTHER AND HE VISITED JAPAN IN JULY 1979 AND THAT IS WHERE WE FOUND IT. ACCORDING TO ERIC'S MOTHER THE PARK BACKED UP TO THE NCO CLUB WITH THE OFFICER'S CLUB FACING THE PARK.   ERIC DOESN'T KNOW HOW MANY TIMES IT HAS BEEN MOVED IN THE LAST 30 YEARS.  NO ONE THINKS OF IT AS HAYNES PARK ANYMORE SO ITS NOT ON ANY MAPS AND INFORMATION WAS UNABLE TO TELL ME WHERE IT WAS. ERIC LOOKED AROUND YOKOTA UNTIL HE FOUND IT AND TOOK THIS PHOTO IN 2009
THIS IS A CLOSE UP OF THE PLAQUE AT THE HAYNES MEMORIAL

I PERSONALLY THINK IT TOOK SOME OF THE PRIDE FROM THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE AIR FORCE.
THE FOLLOWING PHOTOS ARE FROM THE COLLECTION OF SGT. ROSSIE RANKIN DURING HIS ENLISTED YEARS. SOMETIME IN THE 50'S HE BECAME AN OFFICER AND WAS RETIRED WITH MEDICAL DISABILITY ON AUGUST 25, 1961 AS A CAPTAIN.
