Below are photographs of the American Flag being raised at Wattisham Airfield, to commemorate the handing over of the airfield to the USAAF on May 8th 1943.
Initially operating P-38J Lightnings, the 479th Fighter group converted to Mustangs in September 1944.
The aircraft displayed are P51D Mustangs, "Janie" (right) owned & flown by Maurice Hammond and "Big Beautiful Doll" (left), owned and flown by Rob Davies MBE.
The flag was raised by personnel from Lakenheath, a nearby operational
USAF base.
